Cycle of waste, corruption
published: Saturday | July 5, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Being an accounting student, I was watching with a sense of pride the attempt to eradicate the wanton waste and corruption plaguing the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

I thought for sure that all would see that avoiding losses of $30 million a month would be the best for everyone.

I was, therefore, extremely disgusted to see the adage 'no good deed goes unpunished' proven with the assassination in broad daylight of Douglas Chambers.

The extreme irony in this is that the murderers and their supporters are going to be the first ones lighting the tyres when the JUTC, in a bid to counteract the pilfering of profits, announces a fare increase.

And so the cycle continues, until Jamaicans realise that 'cutting off them nose to spite them face' isn't the best option, the country has nowhere to go but down.

I am, etc.,
