THE JAMAICA Super League relegation clash between Westmoreland Wizards and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is evenly poised entering today's final day at Alpart Sports Club in St Elizabeth.
Anything less than three points for either team would see them playing in the Senior Cup, the island's secondary competition, next season. However, first innings points or a win for either may not even be enough to save them as they could still have to play-off with the second-placed team from the Senior Cup.
Not safe
St Elizabeth Sharks, the defending champions, are third from bottom and they are also not safe as an outright win for any of the bottom-place teams would see them moving to 11 points. This means, the Sharks need at least a draw to secure their place in the big league next season.
Replying to the Wizards' 351 for seven declared, the JDF Brigades will resume today on 21 without loss.
Nickoy Samuels, 82, Carfton Clarke, 70, and Evon McInnis, 48, led the way for the Lions against Kamal Dennis (2-75), Akbar Moodie (2-69) and Joseph Palmer (2-38).
At Port Esquivel: Shane Powell scored 78, Davian Davidson 54 and Shawn Findlay 45 to lead St. Elizabeth to 294 all out against champions St. Catherine. Gavin Wallace took 4-74 and was supported by Bevon Brown (2-78) and Andre Russell (2-30).
The Saints, in reply, closed on 155 for four. Keith Hibbert, 43, Dean Morgan, 41, and Danza Hyatt, 33 not out, scored the bulk of the runs. Howard Powell has so far taken 2-42.
At the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium: Barbadian batsman Kurt Wilkinson scored 98 to lead Trelawny to first innings points over Kingston Tigers.
Wilkinson was supported by his countryman, Floyd Reifer (32). Paul Harrison took 2-39 for Kingston.
Blown away
Earlier, Kingston were blown away for 146. Simon Jackson made 53 against Kemar Allen (3-37), Cordel Simpson (3-5), Oshane Spence (2-15) and Oral Ranking (2-21).
At Melbourne Oval: Carlton Baugh and Andre McCarthy scored centuries for Melbourne against Manchester. Both teams are fighting for the second-place prizemoney of $400,000.
Baugh, who hit 14 fours and two sixes off 129 balls in his innings of 119, and McCarthy, whose 114 was laced with 17 fours, shared in a 136-run fifth wicket stand, which helped Melbourne to 401.
Danielle Ricketts, 32, and Gary Graham, 33, have so far featured in an unbroken opening stand of 78. for Manchester.
