The Editor, Sir:It is Saturday May 3. I just entered the Tom Redcam Library on Tom Redcam Avenue, St Andrew, to use its Internet service.
As I handed my $100 to the cashier, which is what I normally pay for an hour, she handed it back to me and told me the service was free.
"Courtesy of who and what's the catch," I asked?
"The Government and there is no catch," she replied.
In a time when technology and the computer, more specifically, is taking over the world and so many Jamaicans are 'computer illiterate', this is a commendable move on the part of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration.
I would like to urge all Jamaicans who do not have a PC and cannot afford the hourly charges at Internet cafés across the island, to make use of this service. It is available at all public libraries.
To the JLP, I say, keep up the good work and continue to take steps towards empowering Jamaicans, even on tough issues that might attract harsh criticism.
I am, etc.,
