The Editor, Sir:It is with grave concern that I write this letter. My community, Mona Heights, St Andrew, is in serious trouble. There has been an upsurge in all sorts of criminality that has its citizens in fear of their lives on a daily basis.
Nearly every other day, there are robberies, hold-ups and other crimes.
On the road that I live, criminals have been stealing cars, entering premises and stealing handbags and other items from women. This has most of the women in the area living in constant fear.
Gated community?
The citizens' association, along with the police, have tried several strategies, but with no success.
It is with this in mind that I appeal to the Government, to allow the community of Mona Heights to be gated. The safety and lives of the citizens are at stake.
It would be inconvenient for some who use the community as a throughway, but it would ensure that the children, elderly, students, women and men have peace in their lives while in their community.
I am, etc.,
