LETTER OF THE DAY - Appeal to motorists to be wary of scams
The Editor, Sir: The recent headline, reporting on the gruesome deaths of that young couple involved in an 'accident' with a motorcycle rider and a pillion rider, reminded me of my own experience some years ago.

Saying no to'gay' family

The Editor, Sir: Under no circumstances can it be said with legal or moral conviction that "When two women or two men live together in a relationship as lesbians or gays, they may be considered as a family.

Fascinated by Jamaica

The Editor, Sir: I am totally fascinated by Jamaica and the Jamaican culture. I have been there a few times and enjoyed the people, place, food and culture. However, I am also flabbergasted by the whole violence there.

Funeral homes clamp down

The Editor, Sir: I read in The Gleaner about the KSAC clamping down on illegally run funeral establishments. I read with interest since I will be starting schooling to become a funeral director in January. I know the importance of having the proper education in mortuary science to be able to handle all aspects of the business.

Tax compliance

The Editor, Sir: I was astonished to read, on the front page of today's Gleaner (November 15), from the financial secretary, Colin Bullock [and who should know better] that the rate of tax compliance was only 30 per cent and that the rate of corporate compliance was a mere 10 per cent.

New focus by Minister Smith

The Editor, Sir: I am writing in reference to a news report in which the present Minister of National Security is quoted as saying that he is going to spend additional funds on crime fighting especially in the provision of more equipment for the police, guns, etc.

Noteworthy

I find the aesthetic ambience of the chamber of the House of Parliament to be rather tedious on the eyes, if not the sensibilities, especially via television. I am aware that the idea of constructing a new Parliament building is now under active consideration by the establishment.
