EDITORIAL - Selecting the new Commissioner
With the departure of the Commissioner of police and the chief of staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, the leadership of our entire national security apparatus is about to be renewed. This is occurring in a context in which the murder rate has sharply increased and allegations of police brutality have become more serious than ever.
Stepping up 'eena' life
"Stepping up eena life" has been a catchy expression of inner-city youth in recent times which summed up an expectation to fill a void of hope. Understandably, it made its debut from the streets to prominence through the lotto ads. (Seaga)

When can I trust your words?
A few days ago, Lucius Thomas, the commissioner of police, announced his retirement from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, despite having a contract that expires in 2009.One newspaper headlined the announce-ment with a quotation 'It's not true'. (Brown)
Correction and clarification
Last Sunday's column by Esther Tyson had the following sentence in the third paragraph: "Mr. Golding's role model is Nelson Mandela whose task to build a united South Africa after apartheid pales in comparison to our Jamaican situation."
