Jamaica's ritzy artists
"The artist is nothing without the gift, and the gift nothing without work," said French novelist and journalist Émile Zola. Several artists and artisans living along the north coast and who are making a living from their art and craft understand this all too well.

Artist to artist

LAST SUNDAY, as thickening mist crept over Coopers Hill, artists and supporters gathered to honour five of their own at the home of renowned master painter Alexander Cooper. The occasion was the opening of a mini museum, complementing Alexander Cooper's existing art gallery.

Sala - an actual Muslim in our midst

The first time I met Sala I thought she was amazing. Sala was thrust into my world by a random room assignment that had her bunking with Tracey, a high school friend of mine. We were all foreign students at a seminar and the uniqueness of her Yemeni background intrigued us. We had all witnessed the changes following 9/11, and here she was, an actual Muslim, in our midst.

She kissed him goodbye, the saltiness of his cheek preserving the memory of their latest battle. She watched him leave, her throat tightening with all the words she should have said, her head throbbing with the unexpressed evidence of her independence. She turned away as he left.

Randall Robinson to visit Jamaica

Well-known social justice advocate and long-time crusader for the Reparation movement, Mr. Randall Robinson, will visit Jamaica from October 18-21, as guest of the Jamaica National Bicentenary Committee (JNBC) and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
