Nodley Wright, Freelance WriterAFTER THE humiliation they suffered midweek to mid-table team Village United, former title contenders Reno will be keen to demonstrate that they have not lost the pace along with the race when they host champions Harbour View at Frome today in the final set of games for the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.
With everything but the leading goalscorer in the league decided there is not much in today's full schedule of matches but bragging rights.
Despite falling by the wayside in the league race, Reno would claim some satisfaction from defeating the champions in their final game of the season.
This could also give them a psychological advantage in the Wray and Nephew Cup which takes place in late August and September and involves the top eight teams in the league.
Goalscoring title
Involved in this game are also three players with a chance of taking the goalscoring title. Harbour View's Kavin Bryan, with 15, and teammate Fabian Taylor, with 14, have a slim chance of getting there. To do so they will have to blow away the Reno team with Bryan getting at least a hat-trick and Taylor getting four goals. With that they would also count on the ill luck of Irvino English, the man in pole position with 17 goals. If they achieve their objectives and he fails to score then the way will be clear for them. The third player involved in the match with a microscopic chance is Ricardo Scott on 13 goals. He will have the improbable task of scoring no less than five goals to even have a chance.
Newly-promoted August Town are secure in sixth position. Against Wadadah they are expected to add to their points tally and, if they do, and Naggo Head manage to pull off a major upset over Tivoli Gardens, then Wadadah could face the indignity of finishing last in the league.
A win for Naggo Head would be extra special for the veterans Layton Barrett, formerly of Tivoli Gardens, and Denton Shedden, formerly of Arnett Gardens. Both have stuck with the club while others jumped ship and a place above the bottom would be just reward for them.
However, Tivoli Gardens are expected to have too much pedigree for them.
At Drewsland, the defending champions, still smarting from their loss to August Town on Wednesday, will want to turn their fortunes around with a win over the team from Collie Smith Drive.
Besides getting a win, club stalwart English would at least try to find the back of the net once to stave off any challenge for the goalscoring title which he already has one hand on.
For their part, Boys' Town are in ninth position and a win would push them up to eighth and give them a place in the Wray and Nephew Cup Knockout competition.
