Lambert XI win low-scoring trial
published: Thursday | December 21, 2006

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

Jamaica's Youth captain Jamie Trenchfield hit 34 not out to lead Tamar Lambert's XI to an easy eight-wicket win over David Bernard's XI in yesterday's final one-day trial match at Chedwin Park.

Replying to Bernard XI's 140 all out off 36.5 overs, Lambert's XI achieved its target at 143-2 with 2.4 overs to spare.

Trenchfield, along with Lorenzo Ingram (33 retired), shared in a 77-run third-wicket stand which rescued Lambert's XI, which lost both openers - Ranville Brown, 25, and Danza Hyatt, 28, with the scoreboard reading 55-2.

The left-handed Trenchfield hit two sixes, one each off Odean Brown and Gareth Breese, and one four during his 52-ball knock, while Ingram, who was more patient, hit one four from 62 deliveries.

Captain Lambert, who came out to bat at number three, was called back after facing one ball to meet with the selectors to finalise the 18-man squad which will continue training for the upcoming regional tournaments at Melbourne Oval today.

Faltered badly

Dwight Stewart (1-23) and Bernard (1-35) took the wickets.

Earlier, Bernard XI, despite getting a match top score from Simon Jackson, 44 not out, faltered badly as no other batsman made a worthwhile contribution.

Shane Powell, 18, Dwight Stewart, 14, Nikita Miller, 14, and Dean Morgan, 12, were the other batsmen to get into double figures.

Off-spinner Bevon Brown (2-15) and Jermaine Lawson (1-14) led the bowling as a number of bowlers cashed in with a wicket.
