Former West Indies captain James 'Jimmy' Adams was yesterday presented with memorabilia of his playing days in regional and international matches by former Member of Parliament for the Central St. Mary constituency, Horace Clarke.
Adams, who made his Test debut for the West Indies in the 1990/91 series against South Africa in the Caribbean, was presented with a photo album with pictures taken during his Test cricket and first-class career which lasted for over a decade.
The pictures were taken by world-renowned photojournalist Headley 'Dellmar' Samuels.
Adams, who had a patient batting style, was grateful after receiving the gifts at Clarke's Braemar Avenue office in New Kingston yesterday.
"It's good to be recognised for activities that have gone on in the past, even though the career is over," said Adams, who played 54 Test matches and scored 3,012 runs at an average of 41.26.
Fond memories
"There are a lot of people in Jamaica that still carry fond memories; Mr. Clarke is obviously one of these and I am very grateful for the gifts he has presented here today and I will treasure it for the rest of my life," added Adams.
The left-handed batsman scored a career-best 208 not out against New Zealand while scoring six centuries.
He was also a useful left-arm spinner, with best figures of five for 17 against New Zealand. He also kept wicket on a number of occasions, especially in one-day matches.
Clarke said the St. Mary people love Adams.
"All of us in St. Mary love him. His devotion, his respectfulness and his capacity to really work with people and we really sing his praises and that's why all those mementos were put together so that it can be something he can look at," said Clarke.
