A special performance of the Father Ho Lung and Friend 'Caribbean Christmas' at the Jamaican High Commission in London has raised more than £2,000 (J$260,000) for the Missionaries of the Poor charities in Jamaica.
The group, led by Father Brian of the Missionaries of the Poor and featuring eight singers and dancers, performed a range of songs and readings that reflected the season and life in Jamaica.
The special concert was arranged by the Jamaican High Commission, with sponsorship from Jamaica National and National Commercial Bank. More than 100 persons attended the event.
It was also the group's third fund-raising concert in the United Kingdom, having performed at Reading and at the Emmanuel Evangelical Church in London. The group also visited a number of schools and churches during their brief stay in London.
The Missionaries of the Poor is an international monastic order of brothers dedicated to 'Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross', to serve the poorest of the poor. The order was started in 1981 by Father Richard Ho Lung and has now grown to more than 300 brothers.
