Jamaica Gleaner Letters
published: Friday | October 10, 2003

Ridiculous adjustments to the postal rates
THE EDITOR, Sir: ON JUNE 26, 2002 I read in The Gleaner that a contract had been signed the previous Friday for a $199-million complex which would house, among other things, a new post office in Liguanea, St. Andrew.

A cry of desperation
THE EDITOR, Sir: ALL THE hollering about the possibility of the imposition of a state of emergency is a cry out of desperation.

Not the answer
THE EDITOR, Sir: ALL OF us who wish to continue to live in this country share the concern about the out-of-control crime situation, but imposing a state of emergency is definitely not the answer.

Land tax concern
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM writing this letter hoping that the people in authority will read it, and tell what to do.

Stop the the guns coming in
THE EDITOR, Sir: PERMIT ME space in your publication to say to Dr. Peter Phillips, the Minister of National Security, et al, you will never bring down the number of murders until you stop the guns and illegal ammunition from coming into our country.

'We are proud of you, Nadine'
THE EDITOR, Sir: NADINE WILLIS, from such a humble background, has rocketed to the top. Her humility is overwhelming. It is indeed a pleasure just to listen to her, "the roots girl", now a star to "the Get Go".

'Stopping the roadwork won't help'
THE EDITOR, Sir: AT THE very least, some number of Jamaicans must have heard a caller telling Mr. Perkins that murder is a part of politics in Jamaica.

There is hope or Jamaica
THE EDITOR, Sir: AFTER READING the article "Street Pastor and Crime-fighting" by the Rev. Devon Dick, I do feel there is hope for Jamaica to lower it's crime rate.

'Population growth without economic growth'
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE MEDIA had a frenzy in attacking Sharon Hay-Webster on her 'diabolical' suggestion of involuntary surgical measures to limit the number of children born in the society...

Rivermae Johnson
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM trying to locate a friend from high school. We attended St. Hugh's High School in Kingston and she would have graduated in 1987. I left Jamaica in 1985. Her name is Rivermae Johnson.

Pearl Mills
THE EDITOR, Sir: I would like to contact Pearl Mills. I believe she is in the Cayman Islands but her children still live at Bay Farm Road in Kingston.
