Land tax concern
published: Friday | October 10, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM writing this letter hoping that the people in authority will read it, and tell what to do.

I live in the United States of America and I am now the owner of a house and land in Jamaica. I have some in-laws who live there and they do not pay any rent. However, that is not a problem.

Nevertheless, I was told by the Tax Office that receipt is issued to the people with TRN so even though I send the tax money to my in-laws to pay the tax, the receipt is issued in their names because they physically go and pay the tax.

How do I get this resolved, because I live in the States and I cannot get a TRN? Also, I fear that these in-laws might think they own the house and land even though the title is not in their names.

a eight years and I have seen what happened to Jamaicans who were living overseas and left their places with family members, mainly, because they did not have receipts or cancelled cheques to verify that they were actually financially responsible for their properties.

I am, etc.,

Cargill Kelly,Sr.
