Kimberly Williams completed a fine double at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, yesterday when she won the women's triple jump to add to her long jump gold.

Williams, who has dominated the triple jump all season on the college circuit, won with a leap of 14.38 metres. She was a bit unfortunate, however, as the wind reading was just above the allowable limit as it was a positive 2.1 metres per second which denied her the college record of 14.22m set by another Jamaican, Trecia Smith, in 1997.

Former Wolmers' Boys high jumper Julian Reid became the third Jamaican at the meet to take an individual medal as he had a best of 17.10m for second in the triple jump. Will Clave of Oklahoma University won the event with 17.24m.

sixth-place finish

In the women's 200m, former Queen's School athlete Samantha Henry, competing for Louisiana State University, had a sixth-place finish in 23.07 seconds as Texas A&M's Porscha Lucas made up for last year's second place by winning in 22.81 seconds. Henry did not leave the meet empty-handed. She teamed with with former Edwin Allen 800m runner Kayann Thompson to help their team to second in the 4x400 metres in 3:28.82. They were edged out by Texas University who won in 3:28.51.

Former St Jago High athlete Dwight Mullings, of Mississippi State University, was fifth in the 400m in 45.48 while fellow Jamaican Allodin Fothergill of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) ended sixth in 45.81. Florida States' Justin Borlee, who represented Belgium at the Beijing Olympics, took the event in 44.78 seconds.
