Jamaica Gleaner Letters

LETTER OF THE DAY - Compassion to curb atrocities
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE RECENT victory of Minister Portia Simpson Miller is an indication that Jamaicans are exercising a level of maturity needed to lift us out of the doldrums into which this country has fallen.

Seeking pic of SS Jamaica Producer
THE EDITOR, Sir: ON DECEMBER 18, 1998, you printed a letter I sent to The Gleaner asking if your readers knew the words of a folk song I learned while serving on the SS Jamaica Producer in 1940. The song was Salt Lane Gal.

Problems with Customs
THE EDITOR, Sir: I CAN'T for the life of me understand who or what directs policies at our ports of entry. Jamaica must be the only country in the world where if you fly in from Miami, the aircraft gets back to Miami before you clear Customs.

The power of intercession
THE EDITOR, Sir: TO INTERCEDE means to plead with another person on another's behalf. One begins to look at the recent violent death of our dear prayer mother Sister Vilma Mais, a loss of one of the nation's intercessors!
