Delegates at the fifth biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference have called on the Ministry of Health to put measures in place to ensure that medical supplies donated by members of the diaspora no longer languish at Jamaican wharves after they are shipped from abroad.


The call was made by UK Diaspora Advisory Board Member, Celia Grandison-Markey, during a session on Diaspora Contributions and Investments for healthcare in Jamaica.

She said the ministry should fast track the transportation of goods from wharves to their ultimate destinations.

Grandison-Markey also recommended that the ministry develop a structure of community engagement with a seamless link, via an appointed person or liaison person, as well as put policies and systems in place following consultation and involvement of Jamaicans outside Jamaica.
