MIAMI, Florida (CMC):Young Jamaican jockeys Rajiv Maragh and Jermaine Bridgmohan shared two wins at Calder racetrack on Sunday afternoon.
Fresh from a short trip home to Jamaica last week, Maragh won the US$12,500 sixth race and Bridgmohan, coming off a championship title success at Remington Park in Oklahoma, won the US$13,400 eighth race.
Maragh used the 5-2 second favourite BB's Concorde to win the sixth race over a mile and sixteenth.
a winning move
Held off the early pace, BB's Concorde made a winning move - four wide- entering the homestretch and grabbed a narrow lead inside the last furlong to win by half-length in one minute, 48.22 seconds.
Among the top 10 jockeys in North America this year with mounts' earnings of US$11.70 million, the 24-year-old Maragh is a regular at New York tracks which are now closed.
It is unclear whether he will return to New York for the resumption of Aqueduct racing in Queens on Wednesday.
Bridgmohan, who was champion here at the Tropical Calder meet 2006/2007, won the eighth race over a mile with the 4-1 bet Dancing Nick.
He chased the front-running Littlewinged (6-1) for most of the trip and quickened to lead in the upper-stretch.
Bridgmohan had the three-year-old colt 2-1/2 lengths in front approaching the eighth pole and used a vigorous ride to repel a strong late challenge from top jockey Manoel Cruz aboard the 2-1 favourite Mz's Don Zulon.
Dancing Nick held on to win by a neck in 1:42.50.
Bridgmohan, 21, emerged champion at Remington Park last week with 82 wins, easily topping runner-up Clifton Berry (60) for the title.
