Members of the Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA) are slated to elect a new general secretary and treasurer to its executive, at a special general meeting at the Jamaica Defence Force Conference Room, Up Park Camp, today.

The elections, which will follow the election of a new president three weeks ago at its annual general meeting, is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Mark Lewis of Vikings Volleyball Club, Hyper Nelson of MOSA Volleyball Club and Arlene Morgan of the UWI Volleyball Club are down to contest the post of general secretary; while Tamika Pennicott, also of the UWI Volleyball Club, is thus far the only nominee for the position of treasurer.

"Without a full executive being in place, the business of the association cannot be administered properly," explained Dixon, who since his ascendancy to the post of president has been in the media trying to promote the goals and objectives of the association.

Good things to come

"There has been a lot of interest shown in the special general meeting and, in particular, the elections, so the hope is that this will be the start of good things to come.

"The past two special general meetings resulted in no nominations for the said positions and so far we have three for the post of general secretary and one for treasurer," he added.

Dixon, who was elected to his post unopposed, also said he was pleased with the calibre of nominees and was looking forward to working with whosoever is chosen.
