Get real, Dr Phillips

Published: Monday | December 14, 2009

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Dr Peter Phillips has become the Opposition point man in chastising the Government for stonewalling Christopher Coke's, aka Dudus, extradition to the United States. While I do not know whether the man is a criminal or not, one thing I know is that the People's National Party (PNP) does not come to the table with clean hands.

My issue with Dr Phillips has nothing to do with his attending the funeral of the notorious Willy Haggart, it has to do with the fact that in the 1980s, two well-known PNP activists 'escaped' to another country after being charged with murder. They returned in the 1990s after the PNP again formed the government and the case was dropped because of a lack of witnesses. Well, well, I have always thought that evading justice was a criminal act by itself.

Therefore, Dr Phillips, let's get real. Both the Jamaica Labour Party and the PNP have contributed to the destruction of our beloved Jamaica and the rise of the local criminal empire!

I am, etc.,
