Hypocrisy over deejays

The Editor, Sir:

I think on the issue of the Jamaica House meeting of Cabinet ministers with deejays Vybz Kartel and Mavado, that chairman of Media Association Jamaica Ltd, Gary Allen, should shut up and sit down!

After all, isn't he the managing director of a radio station that promotes both these artistes? And, not only that, but that very same radio station employs radio deejays who promote by heavy rotation, the playing of recordings by both these artistes and others alike. What has he done about it?

Allen should note that the radio station, of which he is the managing director, is responsible for the airing of some of the most vulgar recordings by the very artistes of whom he spoke. Why this hypocrisy?

How about having your radio deejays coming to work and leaving their CD luggage at home? How about having them play only from the station's music library?

While I accept that freedom comes with corresponding responsibility, freedom is only enjoyed when it is not abused; and these artistes must be made to understand that this governs even freedom of speech and expression.

May I suggest to Allen that he seek to remove the speck in 'his eye' before he seeks to remove the 'log' from the eyes of others?

I am, etc.,
