The DRIVERS who survived yesterday's challenging terrain in Rio Hoe, Lydford and Golden Grove in St Ann are now setting their sights on the Bog Walk leg.

Conquering this St Catherine stage will greatly improve their chances of winning the Rally Jamaica 2009 title.

The event concludes this afternoon at the National Stadium, St Andrew.

Today's event will begin at the Angel's Petcom Station in Spanish Town. The stages will take the competitors through the Tru-Juice orange field and the water-splash stage in Bog Walk.

"I will be at the finish, but my primary aim is to win my class, the JA8 Class. The car is feeling very good and a plus for me would be to get a podium finish," said a confident Doug Gore.

Mechanical problems

Chuckling before responding, Richie Rerrie said he would be at the finish line this afternoon. Last year, the driver failed to finish due to mechanical problems.

On Friday, Rerrie revealed his car was not ready but he did not appear to be worried.

"I'll be all right for the rally. We have done some improvement to the car," he said on Friday.

Gary Gregg, Jeffrey Panton, Paul Bourne and John Powell are expected to do well and the winner is expected to come from this group.

Panton believes he has a good chance of retaining his title while Gregg has placed a lot of confidence in his newly acquired Ford Focus.

"It is much faster than the previous one," he said.

Based on his performance since the start of the year, Barbadian Paul Bourne is the man they all have to beat.
