Is this Mr Millwood's 'victory'?

Published: Wednesday | December 2, 2009

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM very concerned about the way Ezroy Millwood and the NTCS view the decision of the Privy Council as a victory.

The Privy Council reversed the decision of the local courts on a matter that is more cultural than they can understand in Britain. This begs the question: How many bad decisions has the Privy Council made without factoring the local culture? Though culture is not written in law, it must be taken into consideration when handing down judgments.

Would the Privy Council understand how Mr Millwood and the NTCS packed these buses? Each trip was a grim reminder of the Middle Passage.

Did Mr Millwood and the NTCS consider the extra 15 passengers they carried on each trip when he was calculating the sum to sue the Jamaican people for?

Taxpayers suffering

Can you remember the number of poor Jamaicans who got injured on your buses? Do you realise how often you put our lives at risk with your outrageous driving (on the soft shoulders)?

Mr Millwood, just so you know, the politicians are not the Government, as you would seem to think. They are not the ones who will go to bed without dinner to pay your exorbitant figure, sir. We, the people of Jamaica, who kept your buses and business afloat for so many years, will.

I am, etc.,

Desmond Smith
