Tivoli, Majesty aim to close out series

Southern Conference champions, Tivoli Gardens Wizards, and Majesty Gardens will be looking to cement their place in the semi-finals of National Basketball League (NBL)/Flow All-Island championship in game two of the two-match quarter-finals series today at the National Stadium.

In the opening match, Majesty Gardens will battle St George's Slayers at 6:15 p.m. and the Wizards will challenge the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at 8 p.m.

Both teams are vying to join early qualifiers and defending champions Urban Knights, who recorded an easy 2-0 series win over Pure Playaz, and the winner of the Hoopers and Manchester, Pythons showdown.

In Sunday night's opening game, Majesty Gardens, led by a game high 21 points from Havando Dunn, recorded an exciting 70-67 overtime win over the Slayers. Dunn received solid support from former national Under-19 representative Kemar McLeish (19 points and seven assists). Michael Jackson (18 points) and Leon Chung (15 points) were the leading scorers for the Slayers.

'We should win'

Marland Nattie, coach of Majesty Gardens, who were beaten by the Wizards in the Southern Confe-rence finals, said: "I know that the Slayers will be coming very hard at us, but I believe that once we do what we're supposed to do, we should win the game."

The Wizards defeated JDF 76-66 in their opening match. Andrew Whilby, with 22 points and 20 rebounds, led the scoring and received good support from Omar Barnes (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Anthony Farquharson (14 points, 11 rebounds). Feurtado Clarke (15 points, seven rebounds) and Keeble Wright (11 points, 11 rebounds) were the leading scorers for the JDF.
