Waterhouse have made a significantly better start to the second round of the Digicel premier League than they did in the first.

Waterhouse lost five straight games at the start of the season but have only suffered one defeat in their last 10 games since that losing run, and they have now gone unbeaten so far in the second round, winning two games and drawing one.

Coach of Waterhouse, Geoffrey Maxwell, who many believed would have been relieved of his duties as coach of the team during the early stint, has attributed the team's turnaround to unity.

"The team is very together, very, very together and that is the most important thing; and once you have a team together, you work hard," Maxwell said. "To me, tonight (Sunday) was a joy to watch them play," he added.

Turning the tables

Waterhouse's biggest home defeat of the season to date came at the hands of Habour View, who defeated them 3-0 in the first round. Waterhouse, however, turned the tables on their fierce rivals, outclassing them 2-0 at the Harbour View Mini Stadium on Sunday night.

Kevin Lamey (7th) netted his sixth goal of the season, while Irvino English (66th) scored the other from the penalty spot. The loss relegated Harbour View (28 points) to second, while Waterhouse (23 points) remain fifth.

"We have turned around and everybody is training hard. They know me over the years, the discipline is good, the camaraderie is good, the passing, the movement, the possession - playing the game out of Harbour View's hands. In my opinion tonight (Sunday) Waterhouse showed some serious class," Maxwell said.

Maxwell attributes his team's sluggish start to the season to how late they had started training.

"We started out training two weeks before the season, and most teams had started out six weeks ahead of us," Maxwell pointed out.

"We played in the Claro Cup and we got a victory there and we've grown from strength to strength. Overall, I think everything is working fine, we just have to prepare our minds to continue working hard.

Good fight

"We have some big games coming up and we have targeted certain ganes that we have to try and win and we hope that we can continue," said Maxwell.

Harbour View's coach, Donovan Hayles, accepted that his team was totally outplayed on the night.

"I think we stood up and we fought well, but we were outplayed today and that's how the game goes. Waterhouse came and from the beginning took charge of the game and did well to win the game," Hayles said.

"It is disappointing, but when you are being outplayed, you have to just accept that. We were outplayed tonight but we played good, we played in patches," Hayles continued.

"This is how the game goes sometimes - you just have a day that your team just can't get it right and we just didn't get it right tonight. So we just have to regroup and come again," he added.
