NCU Bulletin: NCU Health and Nursing Expo 2009

Published: Sunday | November 15, 2009

Today, Sunday, November 15, Northern Caribbean University's Health and Nursing Expo will culminate with a grand 10K Health Run/Walk in Mandeville, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The expo had engaged members of the public and members of the university family in many activities between November 9 and 12, with emphasis on perpetuating healthy living.

The Health and Nursing Expo took flight under the theme, "It is Your Health: What are you doing about it?" Special features included a public lecture and nutritional counselling session, cooking demonstrations, presentations, spa treatments, blood grouping and blood typing.

While poor weather prevented fitness enthusiasts from toning their muscles at the aerobic sessions at Mandeville Park, they were given a special treat by George's Gym which conducted self-defence exercises. Others took advantage of the services offered by NCU's Dental Centre and are looking forward to the visit from the Jamaica Cancer Society which will offer pap smear and mammogram examinations on December 8. Inarguably, the tear-jerking moment of the expo rests with members of the university family who dared to make a difference by lending their time and hands to donate blood for the little ones at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.
