After eluding punters since its inception in July, the Champion Lucky Losers' competition, which is tied to the monthly running of the Champion Betting/CTL Claiming Series, was finally caught at Caymanas Park last Saturday.

With the jackpot having grown to $200,000, the big winner was Henry McKenzie of Mount Rosser in St Catherine. He won for himself a whopping $160,000, while the staff of the Champion Betting shop in Ewarton where the losing bet was purchased, will share $40,000.

McKenzie's losing bet from Champion (name attached) was drawn from a drum (including thousands of entries) inside the winners' enclosure prior to the running of the race and his name matched to the winning horse, SPACESAVER.

It is interesting to note that on this occasion the names of those with losing bets were matched to the first five horses past the post - SPACESAVER, the favourite TOUCHDOWN who finished second, MISS TIMS third, NATURAL HEART fourth and ABSOLUTE STORMER, fifth.

Donations

With each running of the race in the series, Champion Betting Limited donates $50,000 for the Lucky Losers competition, $40,000 to the winning punter and $10,000 to the staff of the Champion Betting outlet where the bet was purchased.

It starts anew with another $50,000 for the fifth running of the race on Saturday, November 21 over the straight-five course.
