Obama calls army-base shooting 'horrific'

Published: Friday | November 6, 2009

President Barack Obama is calling a mass shooting at an army base in Texas a "horrific outburst of violence".

At press time yesterday, the United States president said he did not yet know all the details but promised the government would get "answers to every single question".

Tragedy

The commander in chief says it's a tragedy to lose a soldier overseas and even more horrifying when they come under fire at an army base on American soil.

Obama also said his thoughts and prayers were with the wounded and families of the fallen.

The US Army had said 12 people had been killed, while 31 had been wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.

Yesterday, Lt Gen Bob Cone said during a news conference that one shooter had been killed and two suspects had been apprehended.

He said they were all US soldiers.

The primary shooter, he said, used two handguns in the attack.
