ST PETERSBURG, Florida (AP):

Serena Williams has set the record for single-season prize money in women's tennis by topping $6.5 million in 2009. Williams broke the WTA mark of slightly under $5.5 million, earned by Justine Henin in 2007.

The American won the season-ending tour championships Sunday, beating older sister Venus in the final and ends the year ranked No. 1. The younger Williams also won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2009. Williams' career prize money is now at a record $28.5 million.

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP):

Shahid Afridi smashed 70 off 50 deliveries and took two wickets yesterday to lead Pakistan to a 138-run win over New Zealand in the first one-day international.

Afridi put on 101 in less than 15 overs with Kamran Akmal, who made 67 not out from 43 balls, to help Pakistan reach 287-9 after having lost two wickets for no runs at the start of their innings. Khalid Latif, playing in only his second ODI and replacing the more experienced Shoaib Malik, made 64 from 112 balls.

Afridi was then one of four Pakistan bowlers to take two wickets, finishing with 2-46 as New Zealand was dismissed for 149 with more than 10 overs remaining at the neutral venue of Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Aaron Redmond top-scored with 52 for New Zealand, while captain Daniel Vettori made 38.

Bangladesh win

CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh (AP):

Raqibul Hassan hit a giant six to bring up the winning runs as Bangladesh completed a series-clinching six-wicket victory yesterday after skittling Zimbabwe for 44, the fifth-lowest total ever in a limited-overs international.

Bangladesh raced to 49 for four in 11.5 overs to secure a winning 3-1 lead in the five-match series after the fourth match lasted less than 37 of the scheduled 100 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Zimbabwe lost their first four wickets for just eight runs at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Enamul Haque and Shakib Al Hasan took three wickets apiece for the hosts, while only Malcolm Waller (13) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (11) reached double figures for Zimbabwe. Spinners Raymond Price and Graeme Cremer claimed two wickets each before Bangladesh completed the chase.
