Photographer Rudolph Brown and reporter Shernette Gillispie took to the streets to hear what Jamaicans had to say on the topical issue of finding a commissioner of police. This is what they had to say.

What qualities are you looking for in a commissioner of police?

Clifton Paulwell, gardener:

I am looking for a commissioner who is loyal to the people and don't indulge in corruption.

Alex Simpson, teacher:

Well, honesty, one who communicates well with the people in terms of getting the people's opinion on crime - basically, what's going on in terms of crime. They are not getting the people's opinion on it. It takes a united effort to fight crime.

Lornette Estream, housewife:

I think we are looking for a better perspective, more discipline, better procedure too much corruption is going on right now. We need someone to stand firm and who has a strong backbone; someone we can look up to as a role model.

Fay Peart, cook:

Someone who can keep down crime because we want the country to be stabilised when it comes to crime.

Dawn Roper, teacher:

An honest person. A person who is committed to his job and stern about whatever he says - he should mean what he says and say what he means. A person who will not compromise with anybody. If it is the prime minister who does something wrong and he should be arrested, then he will be arrested. He should not be partial.

Neil Smith, salesman:

First of all, I would like to see somebody who is a man of God to take control of things. Somebody who knows who God is and can pray for this country. It is not just doing your job. Somebody who is honest, just, righteous. Somebody who can separate right from wrong. Somebody who is not biased and will not take any bribe.

Christine Palmer, secretary:

Somebody who can do the work and help solve the crime.

Leonard Stewart, construction worker:

Someone who can explain to us and let us know what is really taking place. We would like to see somebody who is open. Knowing that you are going out there to fight crime, we the citizens can help you with what you do.

Rudolph Henry, vendor:

Well, I am looking for a person who will be honest, upright, fair to the people and, when something goes on, inquire and find out.

Wayne Morgan, handyman:

A commissioner who will look out for the people and see that their human rights are properly addressed.

Kelly Douglas, verification officer:

Someone who is honest and will take the time out to interact with the public to find out what exactly they would like to see done in terms of crime and protection.
