Cavalier moved to the top of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League standings yesterday, following a 2-0 victory over hosts Meadhaven United at the playing field on Michigan Avenue.
Cavalier are now on 12 points, one ahead of Rae Town and Constant Spring (11), who both recorded contrasting results in the day's other games.
Paul Grant (21st) and Gee Daley (66th) were the scorers for Cavalier.
At Constant Spring, Chezray Twyne scored a brace (51st, 88th) to guide Constant Spring to a 5-1 win over Duhaney Park (four points). Leonard Gooden (87th), Omar Longbridge (45th) and Fabian Cooke (90th) were the other scorers for Constant Spring, while Renardo Lee scored for Duhaney Park in the 83rd minute.
Rae Town and Mountain View played to a goalless draw at Breezy Castle, while fourth placed Santos (10) recorded a 2-1 to come-from-behind win over Bull Bay (2) at Bell-Chung Oval. Nicholas Folkes (47th) and Demetrio Billett (69th) were on target for Santos, while Horatio Taffe scored for Bull Bay in the 25th minute.
The Jamaica Defence Force (8), meanwhile, benefited from an own goal to edge Real Mona (4) 1-0 at Buttercup Park.
tables turned
Maverley-Hughenden, which had lost all its previous four matches, turned the tables on Barbican with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Maverley Park.
Paul Stewart (47th, 55th) scored a double for Maverley/Hughenden (3), while Jermaine Parris (17th) scored for Barbican, which stayed on seven points.
At Breezy Castle, Rae Town dominated the first half, but poor finishing from their strikers Renel Coley, Hugh-Hall Lawson and Keyon Leslie, let them down.
Akeem Cohen received the Mountain View's best scoring chance on the stroke of half-time, but with goalkeeper Andrew Martin at his mercy, he shot wide of the target.
Bothered by the sea breeze, which was blowing heavily across the ground, both teams were unable keep the ball on the turf and this resulted in them failing to create any meaningful chances in the second half.
"I think it was a good result because I thought both teams played well," said Michael Francis, coach of promoted Rae Town.
"I think we were a bit flat and this was because of the wind, but we are happy that we did not lose the game," he added.
Omar Stanley, coach of Mountain View, said: "We created a few chances which should have been converted and this has been haunting the team. So we just have to go back and work on this for our next game."
