Manchester Super League will go ahead without sponsor

The South Central Super League will kick off on November 7, despite unsuccessful attempts by the confederation's hierarchy to find sponsorship.

The league, which has presented premier league qualifiers from the last three campaigns - Sporting Central, Rivoli and Humble Lions - has not had a title sponsor since Super Plus withdrew after the 2007 competition.

Last year, the South Central Confederation allowed the individual parish secretariats to supplement the cost of referee fees that were largely borne by the participating teams.

Dale Spencer, chairman of the South Central Confed, confirmed a similar arrangement is in place and teams can expect to participate in a high-quality competition, despite the economic challenges.

"We have already met with the teams and explained the difficulties. They understand our position but know we have to run this competition as it is the only way to the premier league."

Spencer remains hopeful that the door is not closed on finding a major sponsor for this year's competition and revealed that a significant positive was that the Under-21 competition, which began last year, will continue.

'All is not lost'

"All is not lost," the former Manchester FA president explained.

"Locker Room Sports is still on board for the Under-21. We started last year and we intend to maximise that deal to the benefit of the teams," he further stated.

Like last year, the Under-21 league will get under way in January, following the end of the first preliminary stage of the Super League. Twelve teams will contest the Super League. As has been the pattern of the last five years, St Catherine will field the most teams (five), followed by Clarendon with three, and Manchester and St Elizabeth with two teams each.
