Munro College ended St James High School's reign as Ben Francis Knockout champions yesterday afternoon when they scored a gutsy come-from-behind 3-2 semi-final win over the Montego Bay-based team in their much-anticipated clash at Jarrett Park.

The Hopeton Gilchrist-coached Munro team, which stunned the pundits with their win, will meet five-time champions Glenmuir in Saturday's final at St Elizabeth Technical High School. Glenmuir had a 1-0 win against first-timers Paul Bogle in their semi-final game at Jamalco.

In the game at Jarrett Park, the resolute Munro College got their goals through a double strike from Jermaine Saams, which included a penalty, and a single strike from Erroll Davis. St James' goals were scored by Ricardo Morris and Allan Ottey, who also missed a last-minute penalty.

Main objective

"It was not our best game because we only played well in patches and we gave away the ball a lot," said Gilchrist, in analysing Munro's performance.

"Nonetheless, we achieved our main objective, which was to win the game."

Like Gilchrist, Glenmuir's coach Patrick 'Jackie' Walters was not overly excited about his team's 1-0 win over Paul Bogle, but he too was happy about making the Ben Francis final, as his team has the opportunity to join Cornwall College as the competition's only six-time champions.

"It was not a particularly good performance from my team but the good thing is that we won," said Walters, whose team scored through the prolific Ramon Whittaker. "There was nothing much to write home about from this game."
