Jamaica College (JC) and St George's College will contest the final of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/ Pepsi/Digicel Walker Cup senior schoolboy football knockout competition, following exciting victories yesterday at the Constant Sports Complex.
In the curtain-raiser JC, last year's beaten finalists, defeated Bridgeport 3-2, while St George's recorded a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Norman Manley.
Ashani Walker (32nd), Nicholas Scott (63rd) and Necas Collins (79th) were the scorers for the Alfred Henry-coached JC. Jamiel Hardware (51st) and Adoah Nikle (83rd) were on target for Bridgeport.
"We decided if we played our style of football we would do well," said Henry. "I think that we have been doing a good job because this is a young team. Our plan was for next year but the way they're playing right now anything can happen."
Anthony Patrick, the coach of Bridgeport, said, "We look very lethargic in our movements off the ball and JC were the better team and they deserved the victory."
In the feature match, Dean Phillips gave Norman Manley the lead in the sixth minute with a rasping free kick from 25 yards.
Spectacular kick
Devon Williams equalised for St George's in the 25th minute; Marvin Morgan doubled the lead for the 'Light Blues' 15 minutes later, with a spectacular 30-yard kick; and Carl Reid put the match beyond doubt in the 69th minute.
Neville 'Bertis' Bell, coach of St George's, expects an exciting final on Friday, at the same venue.
"JC is a tough game because they have a great coach and a lot of good players and I am happy that we are playing them in the final."
