A pulsating encounter is expected when Wolmer's host Group D leaders St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football match this afternoon.

The match, which will decide the automatic qualifier for the Walker Cup KO play-off, is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. Both teams have already qualified for the second round of the Manning Cup. STATHS have amassed 19 points, three more than their opponents.

The two teams are coming off impressive wins, with STATHS thrashing Meadowbrook 10-0 and Wolmer's hammering Papine 14-0. Wolmer's' huge win propelled their goal difference to 30, with STATHS's being 28.

STATHS coach, Keith Nicholson, is expecting a tough game but believes his team will be able to handle it.

"This is one of our most serious games. We are expecting a tough game but the boys will show character," Nicholson predicted.

"We don't need a win, as a draw will see us through, but we will be going for all three points. If my team plays to their true potential, it won't be a problem," Nicholson added.

Captain out

STATHS will, however, be without their captain, Cornelius Simms, who fractured his instep during last week's game against Wolmer's. The game was abandoned at half-time because of a waterlogged field.

"Our captain will be out for the remainder of the season as he fractured his instep on a stone during last week's abandoned game," Nicholson informed.

Michael Francis, the coach of Wolmer's Boys, is also expecting a very keen contest.

"I am expecting a very keen and competitive game. The team that is more mentally and physically prepared will come out with the win," Francis said.

"All my players will be up and ready for the game. All coaches want to win all cups on offer. We are going to play for it. The team is now really playing true to form," he added.
