A peach of a strike from forward Christopher Waugh guided Wolmer's to a 1-0 Group D win over Camperdown at Heroes Circle and revived their hopes of qualifying for the second round of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football competition.

In what was a brilliant solo effort, Waugh skilfuly dribbled past four defenders with his left foot before slamming powerfully and low past Camperdown goalkeeper Marlon Brown in the 32nd minute, as the home team, facing a virtual must-win situation, rose to occasion with a fighting display.

Vengence

"We deserved to come out victorious. The two teams showed that they were well coached as Camperdown played with a lot of fight," said Wolmer's coach, Michael Francis.

"Wolmer's are growing in confidence and momentum and this is to show that we want to get out the zone into the next round and challenge for the title."

Wolmer's, who lost the first game of the home-and-away match-ups 2-3 at Vauxhall, moved to 13 points as they avenged the defeat.

Joint leaders St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), who were idle yesterday.

Camperdown, who have two games in hand, remain on 12 points and now occupy third position.

In the meantime, Wolmer's and STATHS have three games remaining.

In another Group D match, Papine defeated Meadowbrook 3-1 to maintain fourth, as they advanced to six points.

The top two from the group will qualify for the second round.

"Wolmer's wanted it more, individually and as a team," said Camperdown's coach, Orlando Clarke. "My team tends to show inexperience in big games. We have a couple of days to get the mind of the players focused on our two remaining matches and once we do that, we should qualify for the second round."
