St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), 8-0 winners over Newell in their first-round game, handed them a 9-0 whipping in their ISSA/Pepsi/ Digicel daCosta Cup match yesterday.

With Munro College, who started the round as the Zone E leaders, suffering a surprise 1-0 loss to the inconsistent Lacovia High, the STETHS team, which scored through Denmark Gillings (5), Tajay Reid (2) and Davian Williams and David Robinson, have now joined them on 13 points.

Surprise team Balaclava, who have been having an incredible season, kept their unbeaten record intact with a 1-0 win against Black River. The win, their fourth in six games, now makes them sole leaders of Zone E with 14 points.

Like STETHS, last year's beaten finalist and Zone G run-away leaders Spaldings High, were also in prime goal-scoring form, spanking the struggling Porus High 9-0. The win, which lifted Porus to 15 points, gives them a five-point cushion atop the group standings.

Over in Zone A, champions St James High rebounded from Thursday's shock 1-0 defeat to Cornwall College with a big 5-0 thumping of Green Pond High in their game at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay. The win keeps the Pastor Hugh Solomon-coached team in second place in the group on 15 points.

Roshane Reid (2), Allan Ottey, Scion Peterkin and Jason Malcolm were the goal-scorers for St James High, which was registering their biggest win of the season. St James won the first-round meeting between the teams 4-0.
