Meadowbrook travelled to Camperdown's home field with one intention, and that was to secure their first point in this season's ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup.

They were, however, condemned to their fifth loss in as many games by a lone strike from Ramone Waite in the 76th minute.

The Meadowbrook team, which had allowed all of 16 goals in their four previous outings, went about frustrating the Camperdown team by not allowing them to settle on the ball and displayed their most spirited performance of the season.

Camperdown's best scoring opportunity came in the 74th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Meadowbrook's Rojean Tomlin was deemed to have handled the ball inside the area.

Camperdown's Rickardo Oldham took the ensuing kick but the Meadowbrook custodian, Courtney Wilson, saved his effort.

Camperdown were not to be denied their fourth win of the season, and just two minutes later Wilson supplied a sublime long-range pass to his captain, Waite, who took the ball on his chest before heading it over the onrushing 'keeper.

Waite, who is playing in his fourth Manning Cup season, has scored eight goals so far this season.

Orlando Clarke, coach of Camperdown, said he was pleased with his team's win.

"Meadowbrook did not come out to actually play, they just did not want to lose, and in a situation like that, it is always going to be tough to score," said Clarke. "We have to carve out some wins, even an ugly win like today and we have Wolmer's on Monday, so we have to go up there and carve out one. So it is going to be another tough one."

Meanwhile, Marvin Thompson, assistant coach of Meadowbrook, said: "It was a tough game, tough way to lose 1-0, but the guys came out and gave a spirited performance today." I am a bit appreciative of the fact that we only lost by one goal. The team has been improving over the games we have been playing, so I still believe we will come out with at least six points. We have three games so we can win two of them," he added.
