National women's coach Vin Blaine believes Jamaica's Under-20 Reggae Girlz are only around 75 per cent in terms of their overall preparation, despite convincing wins in the opening round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women's Under-20 Group A qualifying championship.
Registering 5-0 wins over Turk and Caicos and an 11-1 win over hosts Dominica, the Girlz scored an impressive 16 goals in two games.
We won by huge margins
"As far as the play is concerned, we have to be a bit more tactical. We won by huge margins but I tried to get the teams to focus on some of the things we practised and we did not do a lot of those," Blaine said in assessing the team's performance.
"This was a perfect opportunity against weaker teams to dominate and practise things that you work on in training. We need a bit more work and right now I would say we are at around 75 per cent," he added.
Dominating the Caribbean zone is nothing new for the Girlz at any level, but they have always failed to clear the hurdle at the regional level. In order to ensure that this current team is able to break that trend, Blaine is emphasising tactical awareness.

"You have to think about the game when you are on the pitch. Tactical awareness is very important and that is where we fell down a lot of the times with both the men's and women's teams," Blaine said.
"We need to keep working on that, but there are other good signs that I have seen from the team in terms of their urgency and desire, even in a few of the practice games," he added.
The 18-member squad, which advanced to the next round of the competition along with St Kitts from Group D, arrived in the island yesterday and are expected to be back in action early next month.
