Forests the answer to climate change - Jagdeo

Published: Wednesday | September 30, 2009

Guyana (CMC):

President Bharrat Jagdeo says he is pleased that his message about the environment and, more particularly, that the "forest is an important solution to climate change" had been well received at several high-level events in the United States.

"Guyana has made the message clear that forest is an important solution to climate change. Guyana had a disproportionate amount of access and coverage given its size," said Jagdeo, who was among more than 100 world leaders invited to a special climate change summit convened by the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon.

Apart from that summit, Jagdeo also addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and met with various high-level officials, drawing their attention not just to climate change but the role that forests can play as a solution.
