Never forgotten, Mr Rhone

Rhone

The Editor, Sir:

I have been deeply saddened by the news of the death of Trevor Rhone. I met Mr Rhone during the early 1990s when I lived in an apartment complex on Cleveden Avenue, where he also owned a unit.

I was well aware of Mr Rhone's stature as a legendary figure in Jamaican theatre and the arts generally. However, despite his significant accomplishments in this field, Rhone was never one to wear this as some advertising display nor to boast about his achievements.

Country boy

What struck me most about him was the easy rapport with which he would converse with anyone and everyone. Even in the briefest of encounters, Rhone would easily leave the impression of a man comfortable in his own skin, proud of his roots as a 'country boy' and someone deeply committed to Jamaica in the manner in which he chose to be - his love of theatre.

I will always remember many light-hearted conversations and the sharing of a few glasses of coconut water with my neighbour, Trevor Rhone.

What he gave to Jamaica is remarkable. What he has left is immeasurable.

I am, etc.,
