Partnership is what we need

The Editor, Sir:

I am responding to former national security minister Dr Peter Phillips' remarks at the People's National Party's (PNP) 71st annual conference at which he asserts that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) must leash dons. I am certain Dr Phillips knows both the JLP and PNP have failed the people of Jamaica with their approach toward community so-called dons. Riling up a crowd by stoking half-truths and division does go beyond the pale.

Accept responsibility

I've had enough of politicians blaming each other instead of accepting personal responsibility for the country's ills. Moral or ethical misconduct by some politicians and other leaders is demoralising this country and its once proud heritage of great leadership.

Politicians must not only pay lip service to, but must also become actively involved in the eradication of a political arena where criminals establish and operate tribal boundaries.

The JLP and PNP must work together to eradicate criminal activity by criminals also called dons. Our nation must work closely together to gather and share information about criminal organisations - their activities, their tactics and the best ways to safeguard Jamaica.

Jamaicans are not fooled by false public relations campaigns. The true solution involves a partnership with the JLP and PNP.

I am, etc.,

NEVILLE CARNEGIE
