Star players lead Saints to big win over Lucas

St Catherine Saints, led by their star players, thrashed Lucas by 10 wickets at Chedwin Park in second-round action of the Red Stripe 20/20 Championship yesterday.

National pacers André Russell (2-10), Jermaine Lawson (2-10) and off-spinner Bevon Brown (2-8) combined to help blow away Lucas for 69.

In reply, Danza Hyatt, another national representative, hit an unbeaten 42 to guide his team to 72 without loss in just 6.3 overs.

In other matches played yesterday, Manchester Lions, Kensington Dragons and G.C. Foster Crocodiles, all secured victories.

G.C. Foster Crocodiles, electing to bat at St Ann Bauxite, scored 164 for nine with Rajiv Chatrie, 43, leading the way against Denroy Booth (3-37). They then easily dismissed South Star Flames, last year's SDC Community 20/20 champions, for 128 in 17.4 overs. Sheldon Allen made 68 for the losers.

In the day's other game at St Ann Bauxite, Manchester Lions, replying to St Catherine Parish's 139 for nine (Andrew Davis 41; David Powell 2-15), achieved their target, reaching 132 for four, (Oshane Walters 35) in 19 overs.

The Dragons were also impressive in their game against Kingston Tigers, scoring 130 for six in 18.5 overs, thanks to Maurice Kepple's 45 not out.

In reply, the Tigers were restricted to 127 for eight, of which Duran White top-scored with 42 against Clayton Boreland 3-9.
