Allrounder Kevin McClean says he is excited and eager to represent the West Indies following his call-up for the International Cricket Council's Champions Trophy to be played in South Africa later this month.

The tall 21-year-old Barbadian, who is a left-handed lower middle-order batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler, was named as a replacement for pacer Daren Powell, who is injured. McClean is part of the preparation camp which has been hard at work this week at Kensington Oval.

Major international event

"This is a really big opportunity for me and I'm really excited. This is like a dream for me. I am eager to perform for the West Indies. The Champions Trophy is a major international event and I'm just looking to make the most of every opportunity."

McClean is yet to play at the international level but was a member of the West Indies squad for the two Test matches in the Digicel Series against Bangladesh in July.

"I was part of the squad for the series against Bangladesh and I learned a lot. I have also gained a lot of knowledge during the camp here in Barbados and I'm enjoying the hard work. I would like to get an opportunity in the Champions Trophy to display my skills."
