MONTEGO BAY, St James:
Mayor of Montego Bay, Charles Sinclair, has called for an October implementation date of the city's traffic-management system to allow for proper public education and have other critical concerns addressed.
The National Works Agency (NWA) has put forward a September 5 implementation date, but Sinclair says there are ongoing works that will not be done in time.
He is also concerned that the back-to-school traffic may cause longer delays along the Bogue main road - where a dualisation project is currently under way.
Wolmer's Boys' fun day tomorrow
Wolmer's Boys' School's past Manning Cup players will treat the general public to a day of fun and excitement through its annual football extravaganza and family fun day scheduled for tomorrow on the school grounds. The purpose of the extravaganza is to raise money for the school's Manning Cup team.
Former Paris Saint Germain and Wolmer's Boys' midfield star Keith Kelly says he is extremely excited about giving back to the school in such a meaningful and exciting way.
"This is a great idea to play football, enjoy music, raise some money and donate equipment to the school, all while having fun and seeing friends of the past," said Kelly.
Poppy drive ready to roll
The annual fund-raising poppy drive will kick off tomorrow morning as the Jamaica Legion seeks to raise $4.5 million to help ageing ex-servicemen.
The annual fund-raising drive seeks to raise money to support the Jamaican veterans and ex-service men who served in World Wars I and II.
Tomorrow's kick-off will take place at 6 a.m. with a walk around Emancipation Park in New Kingston.
The legion, which was established in 1949, currently hosts 15 ex-servicemen aged 67 to 92 years old. The legion is appealing to members of the public to give generously to the poppy appeal.
