Faulty grading on Babsy

The Editor, Sir:

This is in response to Kevin O'Brien Chang's article in The Sunday Gleaner in which he assessed the performance of members of the Bruce Golding-led administration over the last two years.

Could you please tell me what Olivia 'Babsy' Grange has done to gain a B+ average for performance? To my mind, no other minister has had the opportunity she has had to contribute as much to Jamaica. She is in a time that presents great opportunity and what has she done with it? My score of her is entirely on the first year relaunch of the Independence Day Gala. Note, I said first year, as the second year was fraught with nepotism. Who paid for her two weeks of 'vacation' in Berlin? I neither saw nor heard her implementing any activity as a result of the Beijing experience and, please, tell me which other country sent a minister for two weeks to watch the games?

What I really want to know is what information you have that rates Grange so high, or is your column just another of the Jamaica, Labour Party's (JLP) panegyric? How people who have experienced corruption and non-performance from Government and its agency for so long can stand by and allow a perfect opportunity for strong effective governance pass by (all in the name of politics) is one of life's imponderables.

One other note, as a leader, Bruce Golding cannot have an 'A' unless all his ministers do. Remember, he is the driver.

I am, etc.,
