PNP needs to reconnect

The Editor, Sir:

After almost two years in opposition, the People's National Party (PNP) has yet to prove itself a credible alternative to the Jamaica Labour Party-led (JLP) government. It did not take Michael Manley long, after becoming opposition leader in 1980, to settle down to develop alternative policies which greatly assisted in the development of Jamaica.

Now what is happening in the PNP? The PNP now has a leader who has failed to be an effective leader who can unite her party.

The PNP needs to go back to being the party which fights for the rights of all Jamaicans. The PNP needs to be the party which puts education first and it needs to return to being a party which can boast of its democratic principles.

The PNP needs to reconnect with its base. I am ashamed when my friends who are 'die-hearted' tell me that they will not be attending this year's PNP annual conference. The PNP needs to develop programmes to attract young people.

It is full time for the chairman and the president of the PNP to resign and when they do, the PNP will be on the road to take back Jamaica from the hands of a very ineffective JLP government

I am, etc.,
