Black pride

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am a Jamaican woman living in Atlanta and I shook my head in disgust when I read The Gleaner earlier this week and saw who won the 'Miss Jamaica' competition.

The week before we had a true representation of the country with dark-skinned athletes who did Jamaica proud, so why can we not have a dark-skinned Miss Jamaica?

Some Jamaicans need to stop thinking that being black is ugly, and being lighter-skinned toned is better. God made us all in his image, stop looking down on black men and women. Jamaicans need to stop thinking that the Indians, Chinese and whites, who migrated to our country, are better and more beautiful than those whose ancestors came directly from Africa.

I am, etc.,
