The prime minister had better be careful in comparing the salaries of some police officers with those of his ministers, as the argument could be made that most of his ministers are really not performing, including the minister of national security who had promised to reduce crime within six months of taking office.

Good crime fighting idea

The crime commission suggested by Harold Crooks in 'Partisan politics and crime control' in Thursday's Gleaner, modelled after the existing electoral commission, is a very good idea. It would allow both political parties to contribute directly to the crime solution, hence neutralising each party's political influence on crime fighting.

No one minister, ministry or political party can solve this problem nor should they have the responsibility because each of these players has their own 'criminal baggage'.

More deals for Bolt

I read in the pages of a recent edition of your sister publication, The Star, that Usain Bolt earns US $3M per year. I believe it's time that his marketing team step up the marketing in new areas and renegotiate existing endorsement contracts.

Bolt is worth a lot more. He is larger than life and his fame and goodwill moves products like no one else can, worldwide, at this point in time. It is time to make US$10M, $25M, $50M and $100-M deals.
