THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE ALLOW me to make a proposal to Usain Bolt and the Jamaican people at large. The gift of a portion of the Berlin wall is a meaningful gesture from the city of Berlin and the Germans in general. It should be accepted!

However, I am suggesting that Usain Bolt and the Jamaican people would be better served by the wall remaining in Germany, albeit adorned with the images of Bolt, the Jamaican flag and whatever things Jamaican that can be squeezed in. This would be a new form of advertisement for Usain and Jamaica.

More people will visit Jamaica, as a result of the wall being in Germany than if the wall were to be relocated in Jamaica. We should also negotiate with the Germans that should it be necessary to take the wall to Jamaica at some later point, that option remains ours to exercise.
