Judgement is here

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Please allow me to comment on 'Judgement time is coming for PM' of August, 24.

The 'concerned Clarendon resident' claims that, "judgement time is just a couple of years away."

The fact is that judgement time is now, it is every day. Our leaders and representatives face the bar every day and sadly, they are found wanting.

Re security of the country, 'Concerned' him/herself, has already pronounced judgement. "You did not create the problem."

We cannot absolve any of our politicians, especially those who hold or held leadership positions in present or past administrations.

Is honesty reflected there?

Security problems did not begin yesterday, and certainly did not begin 18 years ago. Each politician should look in the mirror and ask him/herself, is honesty reflected there?

'Concerned' claims that "the police force from top to bottom is a litany of corruption." This writer has seen no data to prove this assertion. However, the almost daily reports, including the Mt Salem saga would lead everyone in that direction.

In addition, we read in the media of many 'drug busts.' Most of the time, drugs are seized but the druggists 'escape' and I see no 'big man' arrested.

That being said, 'Concerned's solution is part of the problem; he/she wants the PM to "recruit police from Cuba, USA, Britain, Venezuela etc and place them at our borders and police stations."

The second servitude

'Concerned' is stating clearly, in my words, 'the second servitude of my people.' There is no whip or chains; but our minds are shackled to the whipping post of servility, an inferiority complex that is at the root of the retention of the monarchy, the ministers of government travelling on alien passports, and the objection of the Caribbean Court of Justice as our final court of appeal.

A trumpet needs to be sounded to alert our people that we have the brainpower, the talent, and the manpower to do without foreign forces. In many cases we can teach them about democracy.

The commitment, discipline, hard work, and patriotism of our athletes demonstrate what is needed and what can be achieved.

Let us emulate our athletes!

I am, etc.,
